Useful, and a little suspect. A cat earns its keep catching mice, so it's a help; but it keeps night hours, moves without a sound, eyes glinting, so it gets tied to the hidden and the sly. "Catching mice, auspicious" and "a worry about thieves" sit side by side because the cat is both at once.
"Cat and mouse asleep together." The idiom mocks a cat that cosies up to the mouse it ought to catch — collusion, dereliction of duty. So the cat's worth hangs entirely on whether it does its job; "the cat catches the mouse, greatly auspicious" is that approval, the threat cleared.
