Dance as ritual order. The Book of Rites says, "Dance moves the countenance." But the ancients meant more than that. The Great Martial Dance of the Zhou court reenacted King Wu's conquest; the village 'Zha' dance was a year-end thanks to the gods. A dance dream is auspicious because it taps into that old idea — if the dance is right, the world is in tune.
"Hands dance, feet step" — joy that overflows. The Mao preface to the Book of Songs says emotion builds from words to sighs, and when sighs are not enough, the hands and feet start moving without you deciding.
