Westerners often get gooseflesh at a spider; the Chinese saw, in a spider lowering itself on a thread, "joy descending from heaven." That difference of instinct is why spider dreams are mostly good.
"Joy descends from heaven": where the idiom comes from. The spider is folk-named xǐzi, and xǐ puns on "joy." Seeing a spider drop on its thread from the rafters, the old people called it a sign of "joy descending from heaven." That homophone-and-image good fortune is the root of the spider dream's joy.
Spinning a web means working toward gain. "Spinning a web, profit" is concrete: a web is built slowly, gathering threads from every side, much like a business or a network. The web in these lines is a symbol of "laying things out with care, and reaping in the end."
