A treasure dream is a rare "almost all good" kind in the Meng Lin Xuan Jie. But its good is not only in money — it's in that act of "digging."
Finding and digging treasure: great wealth and unexpected gain. The lines are plain: "gain a treasure, a sign of great wealth," "dig for treasure, fortune flows," "see treasure, an unexpected gain coming." Beyond water, metal, and fish, treasure is among the most direct of Chinese wealth images — riches buried underground, waiting to be taken.
"Digging": unearthing a buried self. The finest layer of a treasure dream is in the act of digging. To dig up buried treasure also stands for digging out the potential buried in you, the chance overlooked, the skill you hadn't recognized in yourself. Treasure hidden in the earth often answers to the part of you still unmined.
Metal rules the precious. Treasure is mostly gold, silver, pearl, jade — Metal. Metal in the five phases rules both wealth and "the precious, pure, and firm." So treasure isn't only "much money"; it carries a sense of "valuable, worth it" — reflecting something in you or near you that is precious but not yet shown.
